We take great pride in taking care of our clients. If you have any concerns, comments or questions before or after your massage about any part of your visit, we encourage you to let us know. We know how frustrated you’d be if you asked your therapist to work a little deeper and they couldn’t because you hadn’t paid extra for a deep massage. And we know you’d probably be upset if you had already paid extra and then realized you really needed a lighter touch that day. Instead, you can either specify a treatment style when you book, or simply tell your therapist how you’re feeling when you arrive and they will craft your massage especially for you on any given day, drawing from a range of techniques to make you feel great. The key is to communicate with your massage therapist when you come in, so we know who to put you with and how to structure your session once you arrive. For example, if you like deep tissue work or specifically want a therapist trained in shiatsu, let us know ahead of time.
Yes and no. For a number of physical and stress related problems, massage can have an immediate impact. Every day we have clients who come in stressed out, with a sore neck, tight back, etc. and leave feeling a lot better than when they came in. But if you have ever had the experience of getting a massage and not noticing an immediate difference in your body after, you are not alone. Sometimes the effects of the session take time to manifest. You may walk out feeling that you still have the issue you came in with but when you wake up the next day it’s resolved.
But sometimes you won’t notice a significant difference, even after a day or more. That happens because some of the positive effects of massage are cumulative. In other words, the more massage you get, the more benefit it generally has. While many studies studies have been done showing the benefits of massage to treat a wide range of ailments, the problem with this research is that the studies follow participants over a course of many massages, usually during a period of eight weeks or more. Unfortunately, most people can’t or won’t commit to a series of eight or more treatments.
Massage is considered by many to be an art, but there’s a scientific basis for it as well. Researchers have studied the value of massage to treat everything from back pain to depression. Unlike many day spas, while we offer award winning skin care services, we started as specialists in massage therapy – but in a boutique, spa-like atmosphere. To ensure that each treatment is customized for you, we take a health profile when you first arrive, and keep a chart noting the details of each of your massage sessions. If you’re interested in learning more about the benefits of massage you may want to review the research summaries below. They are a good starting point in educating yourself about what massage can and can’t do.
Whether you are a San Diego massage therapy connoisseur, an aesthetics aficionado, looking for a massage or spa gift card or gift certificate, or even if this will be your first day spa experience in San Diego, we can assure you that a massage or skin care treatment at The Healing Touch Lounge will not be your run of the mill day spa session, but a truly magical experience. We have been honored as the Best Day Spa in San Diego and Best Facials in San Diego. We take a great deal of pride being a home to the best massage therapists and estheticians in San Diego, all under one roof.
Instead, they come in for a single session and expect to get the same results as if they had been coming regularly. While you can definitely get results from a single session, you will only get the maximum benefit from massage if you come regularly. That doesn’t mean you have to come in weekly. Even a monthly or every six week treatment can be effective in turning massage into a regular part of your life. We realize that not everyone has the time or inclination to make massage more than an occasional event. We are just as happy to welcome clients who come in once a year, as those who visit more frequently. We just want you to have realistic expectations as to the benefits, if you chose to visit less often. If you do decide to become a regular client please take advantage of our discounted series packages. They are a great way to make your sessions more affordable per treatment.
At most San Diego day spas you’ll find a menu of massage services. But at The Healing Touch Lounge, the only choice you have to make for your massage is how long you want your session to last. That’s because we believe that most of the time, a single massage technique doesn’t fit all out. If you do know specifically what style of massage you prefer, please let us know when you book your session and we’ll match a therapist to your specific needs. Otherwise, merely tell us how you feel when you come in, and our therapists will use a variety of styles to create a custom session just for you. There is no additional charge for advanced techniques including Deep Tissue, Sports, Shiatsu, Pregnancy, etc. Please note that not all therapists use every technique, so if you know you like a specific style, just ask when you book your appointment and we will be pleased to match you with the best therapist for your specific request.
The old saying goes that when all you have is a hammer, every problem looks like a nail. But our therapists are equipped with a whole range of massage techniques they can use as tools to solve your body’s needs. So rather than suggesting a simple Swedish or even a more advanced Deep Tissue session, we encourage clients to come in and tell their therapist how they are feeling that day. Armed with that knowledge the therapist can create a session that draws on a range of techniques, each used where it is most appropriate. We at The Healing Touch Lounge practice a similar philosophy and will customize your session based on your skin’s needs on a given day. Whether you are looking to treat yourself, or a friend or loved one to a massage or spa gift card or certificate, we know how important your massage or facial is to you.
